Everything you need to know about the stair lift grant from Roscommon County Council.

There are grants available from Roscommon County Council to cover the cost of getting a new straight or curved stairlift in your home. The council grant process is means tested and application waiting time can vary from a few weeks to several months depending on the council you’re applying to.

Most of the time, the cost of a new stair lift can be covered under the Mobility Aids grant which gives an allowance of €6,000 or 100% of the cost of a new stairlift – whichever is the lesser.

If the stairs you have is overly complex and falls above the €6,000 limit, then you would need to apply for the Housing Adaptation Grant which gives an increase to €30,000 for housing adaptations.

Types Of Stair Lift Grants

Mobility Aids Grant

Up To €6,000 Grant

The Mobility Aids Grant covers up to €6,000 for basic works in your house relating to mobility. This can generally cover 100% of the costs of the works needed and eligible applicants need to have a household income less than €30,000 a year.

Most of the time, stair lift grants would fall under the Mobility Aids scheme as they usually work out lower than the €6,000 threshold.

This is the most popular choice amongst customers.

Housing Adapatation Grant

Up To €30,000 Grant

The Housing Adaptation Grant covers up to €30,000 for works in your house relating to your mobility. This can generally cover 95% of the costs of the works needed and eligible applicants need to have a household income less than €60,000 a year.

This grant is more suitable for people who are either requiring more than just a stairlift or where the cost of the stairlift is going to be above the Mobility Aids Grant threshold.
